Hillview Academy presented at tonight's Board of Education meeting. Their team highlighted the incredible success of their students this school yearโand what a year itโs been! Every graduate has been accepted into programs to continue their education, including:
Aviation at Western Kentucky University
Esthetician school
Mercedes-Benz JCTS Program (2 students!)
Nursing at Sullivan University
Computer Science at the University of Louisville
These achievements reflect the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the students, teachers, and leadership at Hillview Academy.
A special moment from the evening came when Principal Bob Hafendorfer, who is retiring this year, spoke to the board. His passion and commitment to students have made a lasting impact. Bob, you will be deeply missedโbut your legacy will live on in every student youโve inspired.
The Spencer County Board of Education recognized SCHS Bass Fishing Team, Nate Poynter and Reece Muddell (Captained by Brian Estridge) for earning 1st Place in Regionals and 8th Place in the State Championship! This was the first time Spencer County had (3) three teams qualify for State!! Congratulations to Xander Campanell and Tucker Tamme, captained by Tony Campanell; and Hunter King and Lucas Martin, captained by Keith King for qualifying for State (not pictured).
Congratulations Jack Hart! The Spencer County Board of Education recognized Jack Hart for earning two first-time awards in Spencer County. He is the first SCHS Beta member to receive one of the National Beta Club $1,000 scholarships. Additionally, he has been awarded and even bigger honor in earning GEMS through the University of Louisville.
The Guaranteed Entrance to Medical School (G.E.M.S.) program was established in 1988 and has given high school seniors from across the state the opportunity to cement their commitment to pursue a career in medicine with a guarantee of admission to the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The G.E.M.S students are given the opportunity to observe numerous medical specialties, participate in seminars, serve the Louisville community and build relationships with students who have like-minded goals of becoming a physician.
After completing the G.E.M.S. program at the University of Louisville, students will automatically be admitted to the University of Louisville School of Medicine if they maintain a 3.4 cumulative and science grade point average in undergraduate work, score at or above the national mean on each section of the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), and participate fully in program activities. Congratulations, Jack, on such a great accomplishment!
