BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP
Our Office of Educational Technology has been made aware of a hazardous trend circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. Students are being encouraged to insert conductive materialsโ€”such as pencils, aluminum foil, or paper clipsโ€”into USB and other ports on school-issued Chromebooks. The intent is to create sparks and smoke, often leading to fires. This behavior poses significant health and safety risks. Tampering with electronic devices can cause short circuits, potentially igniting fires. Such actions can render Chromebooks inoperable. We urge all parents and guardians to have immediate conversations with their children about the dangers of participating in this or any similar challenges.

April was an exciting month at SCHS, filled with memorable events and proud moments for our students and staff. Weโ€™re excited to share some of the highlights and photos that captured these special occasions! Prom at Mellwood Art Center On April 26, SCHS students celebrated Prom in style at the beautiful Mellwood Art Center. It was a night to remember, filled with dancing, laughter, and unforgettable memories. A sincere thank you goes out to Mrs. Hinton and Mrs. Kesler for their incredible work in planning the event, as well as to all those who helped with setup and cleanup โ€” your efforts made the night a huge success! Career Fair SCHS hosted its annual career fair on April 16, with over 30 employers from the region in attendance. Students from the junior and senior classes had the chance to hear about full and part-time employment opportunities, registered apprenticeship programs and network with employers that offer tuition assistance and other hiring incentive programs. A special thank you to all who made this day possible for our upperclassmen! Senior Defenses On April 30, our seniors gathered at the Spencer County Extension Office to present their senior project websites to panels of evaluators. This important milestone marks the culmination of their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Thank you to Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Harrod for their guidance and commitment in preparing our seniors for this achievement!

We want to give a huge shout out to Grace Motyka, a junior engineering pathway student who was 1 of 60 rising high school senior students selected from over 145 applicants for a spot at the University of Kentucky's Civil Engineering's Summer Engineering Exploration Camp called SEEK. Mrs. Combs recommended Grace for the spot and Grace wrote a fantastic essay along with submitting her application. The week features hands-on learning opportunities, guest speakers from engineering companies, and field trips to active project sites. Students will stay in dorms on UKโ€™s campus along with civil engineering college students who will serve as mentors for the campers. Throughout the week, campers will engage in activities to learn the fundamentals of civil engineering by participating in hands-on experiential learning activities. The campโ€™s emphasis is learning by doing! Way to go Grace! Grace is an amazing engineering student and a great representative of Spencer County High School.

Our SCHS Culinary Arts students had the privilege of catering lunch for members of the Spencer County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, 3/20/25. The luncheon featured special guest, Kentucky Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman. As always, Mrs. Roberts and her students did a wonderful job showcasing their talents to the community. Keep making us proud!

๐Ÿฅง Happy Pi Day, SCHS! ๐Ÿฅง Our seniors put the pi in pie this year with a fun (and messy!) fundraiser! Students donated to see which teachers would take a pie to the face, and the top six were Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan, Mr. Eier, Mrs. Peters, Coach Dill, and Coach Burns! ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿฅง Huge thanks to them for being great sports and to Mrs. Cook for helping make this fundraiser happenโ€”hopefully the start of a new tradition! Pi Day is also a day in which we honor old traditions, and weโ€™re grateful to Mrs. Roberts and her Culinary 2 class for continuing one that meant so much to our school. For years, Mrs. Baldock, a beloved SCHS math teacher, would bring pies to teachers on Pi Day, spreading kindness with each delivery. Though she passed away in August 2022, her legacy lives on through this sweet tradition. ๐Ÿฉต Hereโ€™s to math, memories, and lots of pie!

Itโ€™s time for another work-based learning shout-out and this one belongs to Angelica Solis Balboa! Angelica is a senior at SCHS who plans to attend Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) after graduation. As a student employee for the districtโ€™s School Nutrition Department, she works alongside the SCHS cafeteria staff daily to prep items needed for the current and following daysโ€™ menus. She also assists with serving students and staff on the lines during lunch periods. "Angelica has been a wonderful asset to our cafeteria team. She comes in with her sleeves rolled up ready to go. She goes above and beyond in all her duties. Angelica is always on time, working very hard at everything she does, while always having a positive attitude and a smile on her face! She is always willing to help anyone and do whatever needs to be done. She constantly stays busy. We are very lucky to have such an amazing student worker! " โ€“ Amanda Chesser, SCHS Cafeteria Manager Keep up the great work, Angelica! #TogetherWeCan
