Dear Spencer County Schools Community:
We are very excited to welcome our students back. We hope you have had a great summer break and ready for the new school year. Today, we are sharing several important updates and reminders as we get ready to start the new school year together.
The most frequently asked question of the summer has been:
โAre we really going to be able to open on Thursday, August 13th?โ
The answer โฆ YES!
At SCES, there are still a number of moving parts and work being completed to ensure that we are ready to open. PLEASE KNOW that if any safety concern arises over the coming days, we will not hesitate to adjust our school calendar to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
SCES & SCMS Construction Update: Over the summer, crews have worked tirelessly at Spencer County Elementary and Spencer County Middle Schools. We remind our community that the work at SCES and SCMS is part of a very large 20-month project and we are about 10 months in. We want our families to be aware that things will not be completely perfect on day one, and contractors will finish various items over the coming days and weeks, specially at SCES. Our primary focus will always be the safety of our students and staff while protecting instructional time.
IMPORTANT Message FOR SCES FAMILIES: The SCES Open House will be rescheduled to allow our custodial team and contractors every advantage to ensure that we are ready for students next Thursday morning. Please be on the lookout for updated Open House information directly from Mr. Scott and SCES!
School Calendar: The first day of school for the 2026โ2027 school year is Thursday, August 13, 2026. You can view our full school calendar on our district website. A direct link to the calendar can be found HERE. Our calendar can also be viewed on the Spencer County Schools App and our official Facebook page.
Transportation & BusRight App: Please review the recent communication sent out by our Director of Transportation, Mr. Cameron Chesser. This is our first year starting day one with BusRight, our parent transportation communication and routing system, fully in place. After a successful pilot program and end-of-year rollout, we are thrilled to offer this level of live communication and transparency to our families. We appreciate your patience as everyone gets comfortable with the new system.
With BusRight, parents and guardians can:
1. View their student's assigned bus route
2. See their exact bus stop location
3. Check estimated stop times
4. Receive real-time notifications when the bus is approaching and when the stop is complete
Infinite Campus Parent Portal: Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check student information. The portal is currently open for elementary families and will open on Open House Day for our middle school and high school families.
Staying Connected & Communication Tools: We know how vital clear communication is before and throughout the school year. We encourage all families to get ahead of the curve by setting up these core communication channels:
District & School Websites: Be certain to bookmark our district homepage at www.spencer.kyschools.us, along with your childโs specific school page.
School District App: Download and use the SC Schools app for easy access to news, schedules, and alerts. Please remember to update the app on your phone every 60 to 90 days so it functions properly.
"Rooms" Communication Tool: Every school and classroom will continue using "Rooms." This tool connects teachers, students, and parents directly to make sure everyone stays informed.
School Lunch & Breakfast Info: Our School Nutrition Department has both online and paper applications available for Free and Reduced Meals at www.spencer.kyschools.us/page/school-nutrition. You will also find a link to MySchoolBucks on that page, which allows you to easily add funds so your child can pay for school breakfast or lunch.
Thank you for your ongoing support, patience, grace, and partnership. Enjoy each and every minute of this final stretch of Summer Break.
Very respectfully,
Dr. Willie Foster
Superintendent, Spencer County Schools

Our middle and high school teams are continuing to work diligently to finalize student schedules. With many late enrollments and class size changes still being received, creating accurate schedules requires a significant amount of planning, coordination, and careful attention to ensure we can accommodate as many student needs as possible.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as our staff works through this process. The Parent Portal for middle and high schools will be opened as soon as schedules are finalized. Thank you for your support as we prepare for a successful school year!
Instrument Rental Night is this Thursday, August 6th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the middle school band room. This is the final opportunity for 6th graders who are interested in joining band to select their instruments for the year.
Representatives from Willis Music will be on-site to assist with the rental process. Please note that our school district is transitioning to Willis Music as our primary vendor this year. If you have already secured a rental through Paige Music, you are highly encouraged to attend and speak with Willis Music representatives about transferring your agreement, as they offer significantly lower contract rates. This is especially for 6th grade parents that rented in the spring, but any family that is currently renting through Paige Music.
We look forward to seeing you there this Thursday

We encourage you to complete the survey, even if you may not qualify. Responses are private and are only used to connect with families who want support. Thank you for your time and commitment to Spencer County Schools.

On Monday, parents and guardians should have received an email from BusRight, our new transportation communication system. BusRight will provide your student's exact bus stop location and estimated pickup/drop-off times, along with real-time notifications throughout the school year.
Important Reminder: July 15 was the deadline to complete Online Registration for transportation services. Transportation routes have now been finalized based on the information received by that deadline. If your family needs to make a transportation change from this point forward, please contact the Spencer County Schools Transportation Department as soon as possible so we can review and process your request.
Please email cameron.chesser@spencer.kyschools.us with any transportation questions or change requests.
