Ms. Burch and Mr. Stephenson did a wonderful job preparing our 8th graders for their defenses that we wrapped up this afternoon. We are so proud of the students and their hard work, and can't thank our community enough for their help scoring them!

Today was a delicious success in our Career Exploration Lab! Even though our guest chef had to cancel last minute, our students didnโ€™t miss a beat-they rolled up their sleeves and dove right into the world of culinary arts! From learning what it really takes to be a chef to exploring the art of plating and garnishing, these future chefs showed creativity, teamwork, and tons of enthusiasm. Who knew learning about careers could look (and taste) this good?

Spencer County Families, We are aware of the threat for severe weather tomorrow afternoon during dismissal and bus routes. We are closely monitoring updates from the National Weather Service. We want to inform you that there is a possibility that Spencer County Schools will need to dismiss early on Friday, May 16th. At this time, no final decision has been made, and one will not be made until tomorrow. We strongly encourage families to have a plan in place in case a change becomes necessary during the school day. Any updates, including dismissal times, will be shared as soon as they are available through our usual communication channels. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Our Office of Educational Technology has been made aware of a hazardous trend circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. Students are being encouraged to insert conductive materialsโ€”such as pencils, aluminum foil, or paper clipsโ€”into USB and other ports on school-issued Chromebooks. The intent is to create sparks and smoke, often leading to fires. This behavior poses significant health and safety risks. Tampering with electronic devices can cause short circuits, potentially igniting fires. Such actions can render Chromebooks inoperable. We urge all parents and guardians to have immediate conversations with their children about the dangers of participating in this or any similar challenges.

Over the past two weeks, our students have had the incredible opportunity to learn straight from the pros!! We were honored to welcome professionals from Taylorsville Lake State Park and the Spencer County Fire Department into our school. From protecting our natural spaces to saving lives in emergencies, these community heroes shared real-world experiences that brought the career exploration lab to life. Because letโ€™s be honestโ€”who better to learn from than the people who live it every day? Weโ€™re so grateful to these professionals for pouring into our students and helping them explore future careers and the importance of service, safety, and conservation.
