Our Cubs had another fantastic Den Day filled with learning, leadership, teamwork, and fun! ๐พโจ
๐จ Learning in Our Dens: Cubs explored our Character Strong trait of the month, Responsibilityโtaking action and understanding the impact of our choices. They also worked together to create a special mural that will soon hang at the front of our school! ๐๏ธ๐
๐ Celebrating Together: We gathered in the gym as one SCES family to announce our new Student House Leaders and recognize our Students of the Month for demonstrating Respect! ๐๐
๐ PBIS Game Time: We wrapped up our celebration with a fun game where our Cubs had the chance to earn PBIS points! ๐ฏ๐
From creating together to celebrating one another, our Cubs showed what it means to be Active Collaborators, Engaged Citizens, and Empowered Learners! ๐

Fall Break is almost here, and we have TWO fun challenges to keep our Cubs learning, reading, and making memories while they're away from school! ๐๐
๐ Fall Break Reading Challenge!
We are challenging our Cubs to read for **20 minutes a day for 5 days** during Fall Break (October 10โ19)! Students can complete their reading logs, color them in, and return them to school for a chance to WIN a fun fall book pack! ๐

๐ Fall Break Choice Board!
Our Cubs can also complete fun activities from their Fall Break Choice Board! These challenges are a great way to spend time with family, get creative, enjoy the fall weather, and keep those brains growing! ๐งก If students complete 5 challenges they get a spooky bookmark.
๐ Don't forget! Students should turn their completed reading logs and choice boards in to the front office when we return from Fall Break!

๐ฅ๐ Fire Safety Day! ๐๐ฅ
Our littlest Cubs had a BIG adventure learning how to stay safe! โค๏ธ๐ป Earlier this week, the Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department taught us all about fire safety, firefighters, their equipment, and what to do in an emergency.
The kids absolutely loved exploring the fire truck, checking out the fire safety trailer, and getting to be honorary firefighters in their red helmets! ๐๐งโ๐
A HUGE thank you to our local firefighters for taking the time to teach these important lessons in such a fun, hands-on way. Learning fire safety today helps keep our smallest Cubs safe tomorrow! โค๏ธ๐ฅ๐ป

๐ฉบโ๏ธ Calling all Distributive Doctors! โ๏ธ๐ฉบ 3rd graders in Mrs. Lawton's and Mrs. Tobbe's classrooms put on their โdoctorโ hats and got to dissect multiplication arrays! ๐งโโ๏ธ๐ฉโโ๏ธ Students broke apart arrays into smaller, easier-to-solve pieces to help them solve multiplication problems using the distributive property. But they werenโt just doing mathโthey were being problem solvers and empowered learners! ๐ก Students worked hands-on to figure out how and why numbers can be broken apart to make multiplication easier. They explained their thinking, tried different strategies, and learned from their discoveries. We love seeing our 3rd graders take ownership of their learning and realize that thereโs more than one way to solve a problem! What a fun way to learn, think, and grow as mathematicians! ๐ฉบโค๏ธโ
๐ฆ๐ฌ **Our fourth graders got to be hands-on scientists!**
Students dissected owl pellets and discovered what was hidden inside๐ฆด They carefully examined, sorted, and identified their findings while working together to piece together the story of what the owl had eaten.
This hands-on investigation was a great example of our students being **Active Collaborators**! They shared ideas, helped one another, asked questions, and worked as a team to make discoveries. ๐
Learning science is even better when you can get your hands on it! ๐ฆ๐ฆด๐
๐พ๐ Learning About Agriculture at Ag Day! ๐๐ฑ
Last Thursday, our SCES Cubs headed to TES for our annual Ag Day! ๐พ๐
Our students had the opportunity to learn from members of our local agricultural community and discover just how important agriculture is to our everyday lives. ๐ฝ๐ They also got up close with some amazing farm animals and learned about the important roles they play! ๐๐๐๐
Our Cubs were Empowered Learners and Engaged Citizens as they asked questions, explored, and made connections to the world around them. ๐ฑโจ
A huge thank-you to the Spencer County Extension Office and everyone who shared their time, knowledge, and animals with our students! We are so grateful for these hands-on learning experiences. ๐

First, we learn the skills we need to work together through Character Strong. Then, we get to watch our Cubs put those skills into action as they learn, collaborate, and solve problems in the classroom! ๐๐คโจ
It is amazing to see those connections come to life. Character Strong is such an engaging and meaningful program, and we are already seeing the difference it is making for our Cubs and our school community! ๐

Mrs. Tobbeโs and Mrs. Lawtonโs reading classes had a sweet reward after studying the biography of Milton Hershey! ๐ซโจ After learning about the life and accomplishments of the man behind the famous chocolate, our Cubs got to enjoy a Hershey bar of their own! ๐
Our Empowered Learners discovered how reading biographies can teach us about the people who made a difference and the stories behind familiar names.

๐๐ An Apple-mazing Week in Kindergarten! ๐๐
Mrs. Whiteโs and Mrs. Nicoleโs Cubs had a peel-ing good time studying apples last week! ๐โจ Our young Empowered Learners explored several varieties of apples and picked their favorites before getting busy in the kitchen! ๐งโ๐ณ They made delicious caramel apples, apple pie, and applesauce! ๐ฅง๐
But the fun didnโt stop there! Our Cubs became scientists and Problem Solvers as they made predictions about whether whole apples, apple slices, apple peels, stems, and seeds would sink or float. ๐ฌ๐ฆ Then, they put their predictions to the test!
